The Work that Changes Lives.
Julie MacAdam
MA, SEP, RSMT/E
Do you have insight but remain stuck in patterns?
Despite how much we may try, it is impossible to talk the body out of its experience. We can however learn to listen.
I’m Julie MacAdam. As a somatic therapist, I work at the intersection of the body and dreams, helping people uncover and engage with what is unconscious to make conscious change.
If you’ve reached an impasse in more traditional therapies, I’d like to help you increase awareness and self-acceptance, creating shifts that feel sustainable over time.
It would be my honor to work with you.
Sometimes it isn’t about figuring things out.
It is about being with, being seen, and feeling what is ready to be felt.
Afterall, changing the body alters the self.
Healing at the intersection of body, dreams, and creativity.
I am a somatic therapist and educator integrating Somatic Experiencing®,
dreamwork, and expressive arts to support healing and transformation.
My work engages the body, imagination, and creative process to nourish authenticity, support nervous system regulation, and deepen awareness. It is relational in nature and depth-oriented.
I serve individuals, communities, and organizations through personal sessions, consultation, speaking and teaching events, and group facilitation.
What is a session like?
These sessions are not talk therapy. They are a space of deep listening, where we center the body’s innate intelligence and propensity towards healing.
In the beginning of our work together, I support you to clarify why this really matters to you and what you want. I do this because I want you to feel as clear as you can about your intention going into the work. Knowing your intention can support you to be patient towards changes that take time and consistency so you stay with the phases of healing and true to your intent as a resource.
During sessions, we begin with simple conversation, noticing how you’re arriving that day, where you feel resourced, and what you’d like to tend to. From there, you will share a dream as a part of your “story”. Dreams and our slower speed will reveal what is underneath the surface of patterns of behavior, getting to and working at the roots of things to support sustainable change. Over time, we will track the larger themes that resurface, tending with care, curiosity and presence.
I will always meet you where you are, and together we will slow things down, creating more time and space for what is emerges. I will be the guardian of your nervous system process, as to ensure you are feeling resourced enough to go into what is unconscious with enough courage and trust.
Is it for me?
This work may be right for you have reached an impasse in other forms of therapy. It is suitable for those drawn to a process that centers the body’s intelligence and other ways of knowing and being.
People that have tried to change but still feel stuck often report benefiting from this work because of the way that we center and engage with what is unconscious.
There are many practitioners out there and our connection, more than what we do together matters to the change-making process. A good fit is about feeling self-enough, resonate with, and gently challenged in the ways that help expand growth.
I offer a complimentary 30-minute consultation as a way for us to get to know each other. You are welcome to bring questions and curiosities that you have and we can discuss how this work can support your right now in your life. It is not a therapy session but rather a way to sense into how we might work together.
If we choose to go forward, I suggest that we meet weekly or bi-weekly to begin. When dealing with the nervous and attachment systems, and bravely exploring what is unconscious, consistency and continuity matters.
What can I get from this?
Many people report feeling more connected to themselves and a deepened awareness of their motives, desires and resistances. Through this expanded state of awareness, you will function less from mechanical reactions and more from what you value. These values will begin to reshape the way you behave towards yourself, others and the life around you.
This work supports nervous system regulation. When the nervous system is in a state of more coherence and rhythm, perception shifts. The content of life might remain (same partner, same job, etc), but the context with which life is viewed is different. This can lead to feelings of possibility and choice.
We will still be human beings, having bad days and good days, and often through this work there are less highs and lows of the extreme variance, and more of a witness observer who can hold the full variety of life while knowing of your fundamental ‘okayness’.
People report more confidence, compassion, and dignity. Not that all problems go away, but that they aren’t experienced as urgent emergencies, leaving room for you to choose your next steps wisely.
What kind of trauma do you work with?
I specialize at the intersection of trauma renegotiation using dreams and the creative process.
I work with a wide range of experiences, including developmental and relational trauma, shock trauma, grief and loss, chronic stress, anxiety, body-based symptoms, and creative blocks.
My approach is inclusive, respectful of what is conscious and unconscious, and deeply reverent of the unique ways we adapt and survive.
What are your rates?
My current rate is $145/session.
I have limited sliding scale spaces which prioritize, but are not limited to, BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and trans/GNC communities.
I stand for making this work as accessible as possible and also have group cohorts which tend to be more affordable and offer package rates upon request.
If you have questions about how I determine my rates or want to talk about a sliding scale opportunity, please book a free consultation and we can discuss this and any other questions you have thoroughly.
